Urgent Care History

Physicians Immediate Care (PIC) was founded in early 1987 by a group of emergency physicians under the leadership of John J. Koehler, M.D.
Physicians Immediate Care clinics operate on a walk-in basis, seven days a week, on average 10 to 12 hours a day. Appointments are not required.
The target urgent care customer needs medical attention today but does not need hospital emergency room services. Focusing solely on episodic problems, practitioners do not provide long term management of chronic diseases. Patients with chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease or hypertension are referred to primary care physicians or specialists who can provide continuity of care.

In addition to urgent care, the Physicians Immediate Care business model includes occupational medicine, employer-paid services, physical therapy and other ancillary services.
Physicians Immediate Care clinics emphasize the use of technology by utilizing custom Practice Velocity® practice management and electronic medical record software. Developed within the Physicians Immediate Care system, this software platform addresses the unique needs of the urgent care industry. Important coding and documentation issues are solved by utilizing the custom in-house developed “PiVoT™/VelociDoc®” software systems, designed to produce proper documentation, coding and billing. Computerized radiology is also used throughout the PIC system.

Physicians Immediate Care’s unique business model combined with custom designed software solutions, a strong leadership team and exceptional support staff and systems have produced a powerful business model.

Physicians Immediate Care’s presence in the Rockford area has created market dominance. In addition, this strategic grouping of multiple clinics in one geographic area has allowed significant economies of scale on a local level, as management and marketing costs are significantly reduced when allocated across several units in one market area.

Expansion outside the Rockford, Illinois market, beginning in 2003, has included six clinics in the Chicagoland area and one clinic in Bartlesville, OK. Currently, Physicians Immediate Care operates thirteen clinics in two states. Physicians and investors can now capitalize on the Physicians Immediate Care system through its franchising program. Taking advantage of its developed methods and systems, software solutions, managed care contracting and billing expertise as well as its powerful collective vendor negotiations maximize a franchisees opportunity for success.
